Literacy Difficulty
Literacy difficulty can arise from any of the areas discussed. Research has found a direct link between delayed development of receptive and expressive language, phonological processing, speech sound production and literacy difficulties / Dyslexia. Developing strong speech and language skills is an essential platform for the acquisition of literacy. Research has also found that early intervention in this area can significantly reduce the likely hood of ongoing and persisting literacy difficulty.
Leaving intervention until a child presents with real difficulties in school can be costly and I would encourage all parents to take pro-active steps in this area if there is any indication that your child has receptive and expressive language or speech difficulty. If your child is at the stage of learning how to read and write and they are struggling to retain the information taught seek assistance immediately. Children typically inhale reading and writing once immersed in a language rich literacy programme.
Having a literacy learning difficulty can be very specific and is in no way indicative of limited intelligence.
Justine will support you in developing strong literacy skill in your child, provide differential diagnosis and make additional referrals where possible. Justine can work closely with your child’s school to assist in your child’s development.
