Phonological Processing Difficulties
As a child develops they will use meta-cognition to think about the way words sound and to identify familiar structures in language.
Phonological Awareness Skills allows child to discriminate, recognize, store and manipulate sounds at phoneme, word and sentence level. For example identifying and manipulating phonemes, syllables, rhyme, and phonemic substitutions are all very important Phonological Processing Skills. Developing strong Phonological Processing Skills is necessary for the acquisition of literacy skill. There is a known correlation between literacy delay (Dyslexia) and Phonological Awareness difficulties. A child with phonological difficulties may also present with immaturities in their speech production.
