Therapy Tools
Whilst the team at Rhind Speech Therapy specialise in PROMPT, we recognise that an integrated use of therapeutic tools is essential to navigating successful outcomes.
As a therapist it is just as important to know when to choose a therapy tool, and how to use it effectively.
At Rhind Speech Therapy the PROMPT conceptual framework is our Tool-Box, it provides us a clear, well organised framework to guide assessment, decision making, systematic planning and therapeutic decisions.
PROMPT also provides us with the POWER TOOL – ‘PROMPT Technique’ – which is the tactile cueing system that allows us to show our clients how to make speech, by supporting the movements of their jaw lips and tongue.
However, as individual therapist’s and as a team, we are skilled in many therapeutic tools and will use them as and when appropriate to facilitate the changes your child needs to access. Here is a list of some of the techniques we may use.
• Makaton
• Lego Therapy
• Social Language Scales
• Colourful Semantics
• Derbyshire Language Scales
• Development of Augmentative and Alternative Solutions
• Use of visual support systems
• Lidcombe for stuttering
• Behavioural management programmes
• Use of adaptive equipment to support postural and physical difficulties
• Social Thinking Programme
• Hanen Therapy
• Parent Child Interaction Therapy
Tools help us get the job done, and similar to any building process should be picked up and put down as and when needed. Not one tool is going to build a whole house, and it’s the same in therapy.
However, in our experience, the PROMPT technique is a tool that is needed ALL the way through the therapy process and we will rarely put it down.
